UK Takes Another Step down the Road to Energy Poverty and Climate Canutism
The UK’s failing prime minster Gordon Brown continues to make poor judgements and decisions. If recalling disgraced former cabinet minister Peter Mendelson to the government wasn’t bad enough, a new department of ‘Energy and Climate’ has been announced during the cabinet reshuffle.
The hapless BBC reported the news as ‘Greens welcome new climate dept.’
At least there were sensible quotes from the CBI who said: “Ultimately, it is sound, timely policy decisions that matter most, not departmental names or structures.” Think-tank Policy Exchange said: “Whether a new energy and climate change department under Ed Miliband’s leadership can sort out the current UK energy policy mess is far from certain.”
Climate Research News continues to demonstrate, using peer reviewed science, that climate and energy policies are largely separate issues. Climate policy is about adaptation to inevitable climate change, energy policy is about meeting our growing energy needs using viable sources rather than from intermittent, ‘pie in the sky renewables.’ The fact remains that the poor state of the UK’s electricity generation capacity means that we need global warming and can ill afford continued global cooling that has been underway since 2002.
