Roger Pielke Sr: No Funded Indpendent Assessment of IPCC WG1 Report
Roger Pielke Sr has an interesting post on his Climate Science blog entitled, ‘Protecting The IPCC Turf – There Are No Independent Climate Assessments Of The IPCC WG1 Report Funded And Sanctioned By The NSF, NASA Or The NRC.’
Do read it all, but Pielke Sr concludes:
As it stands now, there are no independent climate assessments of the IPCC WG1 report funded and sanctioned by the NSF, NASA or the NRC.
The agency representatives at the NRC planning meeting on December 8 2008, either are inadvertantly neglecting the need for independent oversight, or they are deliberately ignoring this lack of an independent assessment because the IPCC findings fit their agenda on the climate issue. In either case, the policymakers and the public are being misled on the degree of understanding of the climate system, including the human role within in it.

This is extremely poor public policy. For an issue that is being forced fed down a path of where there will be huge economic impact, for the agencies of Governments ( not just in the USA) not to insist on some independant assessment or review is a complete dereliction of duty.
Further, there is abundant evidence to indicate that there very sound grounds for an independant assessment being undertaken.
Failure to so is going to come back and burn a few -including Obama
