The IPCC Numbers Game: 4000 = 60
How many times have you heard or read words to the effect that 4000 scientists from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate change (IPCC) supported the claims about a significant human influence on climate? I think I’ve seen it on television, radio and the Internet and I know that politicians at national levels have quoted such figures. There’s no question whatsoever. It’s utterly wrong.
In fact, once the duplicated names are removed that number falls below 2,900 and if we only want those who explicitly supported the claims it falls to only about 60. So how does 4,000 become 60? Let’s take a closer look at the real numbers.
The IPCC Can’t Count – Author and Reviewer numbers are wrong by John McLean, Jan 2009

It’s always been a fraud, perpetrated by a few, there never were 2500 reviewers.

Being an opinion peice, I’m not to botherd that the article only gives afew select examples, but if it wanted to be transparent it would be nice for it to actualy show all the names and duplications it claims, while it would make for tedious reading, atleast it would be convincing, rather than just empty conjecture

That’s a good point Barry, but before anyone makes or repeats the claim that there is a ‘consensus’ of 2500 or 4000 scientists, they should check the report thoroughly first. The reviewers comments and lead authors responses, which is usually a rejection, are also available online and make interesting reading.

My email address was provided at the top of that document for any readers who had questions. I would be happy to send Barry (or CRN) a spreadsheet of all authors in which I identify those whose names are duplicates.
In an update to my work I have reduced that 2873 even further by identify where hyphenated names were used in some places but no hyphen appeared in the same name somewhere else. I have also found a few names where the first name and second name were in different order in the IPCC’s lists.

Thanks John, your painstaking work is appreciated. I’d be interested in having the spreadsheets: climatetruth@gmail.com
