Weather Action: Met Office Winter ‘Forecast’ 2009-10 ‘Reckless Misleading Nonsense’
Met Office winter ‘forecast’ 2009-10 attacked as ‘reckless misleading nonsense without scientific basis or skill’.
“It should be ignored absolutely. The opposite to whatever the Met Office says in long range has been what happened for the last three years!”
Piers Corbyn, astrophysicist of WeatherAction said today, 23 July:
“The Met Office long range forecast attempts at seasonal and world developments totally failed• to predict ANY of the 5 notable weather developments since 2007. They predicted the opposite to what occurred for the wet summers 2007, 2008, and 2009, the icy snowy winter 08/9, and world temperature decline over recent years. On the other hand our WeatherAction Solar Weather Technique predicted all these major situations correctly and did it ahead of the Met Office prognoses.
Their score of zero out of five is lamentable. It could not be worse. They should stop issuing these reckless ‘forecasts’ which only serve to mislead the public, commerce and emergency authorities and cause unnecessary misery danger and possible death.
Their forecast for a mild winter in 08/09 disarmed the emergency services and Councils and led directly to the UK running out of road salt, transport chaos and extra road accidents when the snow deluges predicted by us at WeatherAction hit Britain and Ireland. The Met Office stupidity cost the economy billions of pounds.
“The recent heavy rains and weather prospects spell failure for the Met Office forecast of a ‘barbecue summer’ which we advised our own forecast users would fail. For how much longer will government, ‘opposition’ and much of commerce continue to follow failed methodology which is without scientific basis?
“The Met Office long range forecasts will continue to fail because they are founded on the politically motivated false theory of man-made global warming and related computer models. The fact is the world has been cooling for at least 7 years while CO2 has been rapidly rising. Our proven science explains why and shows the world cooling will generally continue at least to 2030 and the world will remain generally cooler than recently for a hundred years (see below**)
“The Met Office ‘forecast’ (issued 23 July) for winter 2009-10 to be probably milder and wetter than average is nonsense and entirely what one would expect them to say. Their religious belief in non-existent man-made Global Warming means they could not say anything different. Their forecast should be ignored absolutely. Statistically speaking the opposite to what they say has a success score of 5/5.
“In the immediate future I suggest the major clothing chains should consider sue-ing the Met Office for misleading advise 3 years running which is now leaving stacks of ‘barbecue summer’ wear falling onto the streets. And anyone who had an accident in winter because road-salt ran out should sue the Met Office and the local Council for negligence.
“Politicians of all the major parties should be called to account for their promotion of projects spending and taxation for the green bubble of false value which is the ideological basis for these stupid and damaging forecasts. Gordon Brown’s welcome moves to more accountability of public life are being undermined by the green fools who mis-advise him on environmental matters and he should get rid of them. The dead hand of the promoters of climate hysteria is causing needless economic and personal suffering and unless stopped it will end in tears and leave us all worse off”.

I have to agree.
IN sept 08 I forecast a cold winter, because of the low solar activity— and I was on the money.
5 yrs ago the BBC were pumping us on the South Coast of England full of water shortages, Monty Don telling us how we would only be able to grow mediterian plants shortly in our gardens etc.
Has it happened— NO.
Before the goverments spend so much money on climate change they need a 5 yr pause just to check reality

I believe that CO2 does influence climate on a very long term scale (hundreds of years), but any effect in the short to medium term is ‘swamped out’ by other factors such as solar activity. I agree it is misleading to apply any model that ignores solar activity in 6 month forward forecasting, or at the very least gives CO2 too high a correlation weighting for forecasting.
I imagine that next time there is a volcanic eruption it will be used as justification on why temperatures aren’t rising – a cover story. They have already used ‘pacific cloud formation’ as a cover story this year.
The real reason in my opinion for the ‘green bandwagon’ is because the powers that be a shit scared of peak oil/peak energy – it’s easier to justify lowering living standards if a boogie man (global warming) / enemy is invented.

profbaldwim, you are totally right about the real reason behind global warming and the green bandwagon. It is all about the oil running out. It is totally about getting a populous to except let us say undesirable changes in order to reduce energy consumption. Another effective method to reduce oil consumption is to hype and over-egg a global financial crisis!
I laughed out loud today when I heard that the Met Orifice downgraded its ‘Barbecue Summer’ to effectively an ‘Umbrella Summer’ and to think as a UK tax payer, I’m forced to waste hard earned money on these monkeys.
The Met Orifice with all the energy consumed with their useless ‘Supper Computer’ weather models must have a massive CO2 footprint! And for what, to demonstrate that they can’t forecast there way out of damp paper bag with a hole in it! Most of the time they can’t even forecast 12 hours in advance (unless the UK has a high pressure parked over it) let alone longer periods. Sometimes their forecast would benefit greatly if they would just open the window in Exeter and have a look at the sky!
I want a refund.
Piers Corbyn’s is on to something and time will vindicate him and his associate’s good work.

Actually, this winter could be milder than average, but at the same time colder than average even though El Nino came back. The reason is that the -PDO has returned so El Nino shouldn’t be too strong. Then there is the factor of having a -SOI which usually ranges from -2 to -4for the past couple of weeks and having a -SOI brings out the best of El Nino. The factors that we are looking for are: Sunspots, +/- SOI, +/- PDO, +/- NAO, +/- PNA, +/- MJO, and +/- EPO.
Bottom Line: El Nino is forecasted and expected to be from Weak to Moderate which means that the Sub-Tropical Jet should be more active than last winter, but the Polar Jet will also contribute to the possible colder and snowier than average winter of 2009-10.

Also, my outlook is only for the U.S.

I guess you weirdo’s forecasts are based on the rising damp in your legs and the molehills in your garden. Oh, the earth isn’t flat i’m afraid to say. Jeez, what a freako website

Piers Corbyn of WeatherAction makes his living out of weather forecasts – so he is paid by results, unlike the climate alarmist Met Office, which is funded by the UK taxpayer. If you want a ‘freako website’ then allow to recommend the likes ‘Real Climate’ or ‘Climate Progress.’

the simple reality of met office forecasting is that it is for the most part substancially incorrect.
When we compare the published forecast information with the nowcast actuals the situation is plain for all to see.
the bbc weather presentations have progressively moved away from being intellectual to now being another branch of show business.
the questiuon should be ‘does any agency do it better?’
most major north sea oil companies produce their own forecasts based upon met office data – with remarkable accuracy – what is their secret?
the met office is well funded – but it fails to provide accurate forecasting – it should be held accountable by its paymaster.
January 6th, 2010 at 3:43 am
Yep – it’s paymaster is the UK taxpayer – £170 million per year and 1500 staff!

the propoganda machines work so hard that an average tax payer often finds it hard to tell what is actually real. Piers’ system/prediction can’t be ignored and I am leaning towards it but you have to wonder why aren’t we (taxpayers/voters) aren’t able to do anything? Isn’t Piers’ brother also an MP and actually believes in global warming? Obvioulsy he is not sold on Piers’ system
