Oz PM Kevin Rudd – Losing the Climate Plot at an Accelerated Rate

On 6th November Australian PM Kevin Rudd made an hysterical speech in which he attacked so-called climate change ‘deniers’ or ‘sceptics’ who he blamed in advance for the failure of the Copenhagen meeting:
“If Copenhagen does not deliver the outcome we so urgently need, no individual climate change skeptic will be responsible, but each of them will have played their part.”
Rudd is dead wrong about both the science and policy, but it is not the sceptics that will influence the outcome of Copenhagen. Denial is now just another word for common sense. Setting arbitrary emissions targets without any politically feasible plan for how they will be achieved is the reason why policy has stalled. Pielke Jr and the other 11 international Professors have offered a way forward with ‘How to get climate policy back on course’ but no one is listening. That just leaves us ‘magical solutions’ without any magicians, just clowns like Rudd instead.

Paul,
Off thread somewhat – on Tuesday I heard a reading on ABC radio of an obituary in the Times (?) on the death of Common Sense. Seems applicable to this discussion, but I can’t locate it so far and thus can’t spread it.
Any clues?
It goes with the title track from the John Prine album “Common Sense” which has the refrain “It makes no sense that common sense don’t make no sense no more”.
