Copenhagen Post Mortem – Climate Summit Zombie to Rise Again in 2010?

The much hyped and very expensive Copenhagen Climate Summit finally came to an end on Friday 18th December, with a vague agreement ‘accord’ to somehow limit a global temperature increase to 2C. Thankfully no legally binding agreement yet, but it is nevertheless scientifically absurd to state that the Earth has a fixed temperature that humans can control. As expected by those of us wise to the real UN agenda behind climate alarmism, much of the talk was about wealth redistribution from developed to developing countries. Communism/Socialism was much in evidence for which the demonization of CO2 is an ideal vehicle. Leaders Hugo Chavez, Evo Morales and evil murderer-dictator Robert Mugabe turned up to blame capitalism for global warming. Mugabe is causing more death and suffering to the people of Zimbabwe than climate change ever could, regardless of its causes. Shame was brought on Denmark for allowing Mugabe to attend the Summit whilst banning climate realist Viscount Christopher Monckton who was at one point knocked to the ground by the Danish police.

Of course, climate alarmism often unites left and right via vested interests in the huge global warming/carbon trading industry, plus the ‘hypocritical jet-setting rich celebrity know-nothing green posers’ who attend climate summits, not forgetting the sheep-like behaviour of those who can’t think for themselves or are afraid to swim against the political tide. Readers should draw their own conclusions from examining the links/business interests of the likes of Lord Stern, Al Gore and UN IPCC head Rajendra Pachauri.

The Summit took place against a background of stage managed climate alarmism by the mainstream media who also played down the significance of the Climategate emails scandal. Furthermore, there is a widening disconnect between politicians and the voting public who are becoming increasingly sceptical about paying for the virtual reality of a climate modelled global warming catastrophe. Spendaholic UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown was busy at Copenhagen pledging billions of pounds of taxpayers’ money, adding to the huge national debt and providing more evidence of his financial ‘scorched earth’ policy with which he intends to lumber the next government. The weather isn’t playing ball either. My electronic outdoor thermometer read minus 6.5C on Saturday and minus 5.5C on Sunday morning. The snow and freezing conditions have caused deaths and a great deal of travel disruption across the Northern Hemisphere. We may even get a rare ‘white’ Christmas in the UK.

So, where does the failed Copenhagen Summit leave global climate policy? The campaigning environmental extremists will never be satisfied unless the developed world sets a course that returns us to the Stone Age.  A switch to mass video-conferencing between world leaders would save  money, emissions and energy, with the added benefit of depriving extremist environmentalist protesters of a target venue.  A new United Nations-backed conference could be held in Mexico in the first half of 2010, several months earlier than planned, but policies that aren’t politically feasible don’t become more feasible or affordable no matter how many summits are held. Will the world’s leaders finally see the light and use the failure of Copenhagen as a catalyst for a change of direction towards politically feasible policies, or will the nauseating spectacle of the seemingly never ending expensive, hypocritical climate circus world tour simply make its next stop in Mexico?
