Himalayan Glaciers Alarmism “a Mistake”

The UN panel on climate change warning that Himalayan glaciers could melt to a fifth of current levels by 2035 is wildly inaccurate, an academic says. J Graham Cogley, a professor at Ontario Trent University, says he believes the UN authors got the date from an earlier report wrong by more than 300 years. He [...]

Indian Climate Report: No GHG Signal in Glacier Retreat?

The Indian Environment Ministry has published a report (pdf) claiming that there is no greenhouse gas signal in the retreat of Indian glaciers. This isn’t the first time that the Indian government have issued an independent climate report that challenges the IPCC’s climate alarmism. I reported on the 2008 document entitled ‘National Action Plan on [...]

New Study on Cause of Himalayan Glaciers Melting

Himalayan glaciers, including the world’s highest battlefield Siachen, are melting due to variations in weather and not because of global warming, Jammu University scientists have claimed. “The field studies from other glaciers in India also corroborate the fact that inter and intra-annual variations in weather parameters have more impact on the glaciers of northwest Himalayas, [...]

Greenland’s Ice Armageddon on Hold

Richard Kerr of Science magazine reports on a presentation at the recent fall meeting of the American Geophysical Union in a News Focus article entitled: ‘Galloping Glaciers of Greenland Have Reined Themselves In’ Ice loss in Greenland has had some climatologists speculating that global warming might have brought on a scary new regime of wildly [...]

New Paper Urges Caution on Extrapolation of Greenland Glacier Mass Loss

A new paper has been published in Nature Geoscience by Faezeh M. Nick, Andreas Vieli, Ian M. Howat  &  Ian Joughin entitled, ‘Large-scale changes in Greenland outlet glacier dynamics triggered at the terminus.’ The Abstract states: The recent marked retreat, thinning and acceleration of most of Greenland’s outlet glaciers south of 70° N has increased [...]

Swiss Glaciers: Shrinking Trend Since 19th Century

A study of Swiss Glacier mass balance by Huss et al, presented at the AGU 2008 Fall Meeting, uses a mixture of direct data and modelling. The scientists analysed the mass trends from 1900 to 2007. Over this period, there is a significant negative trend. It is not linear, however. There are two distinct phases [...]

Glaciers in Norway Growing Again

Scandinavian nation reverses trend, mirrors results in Alaska, elsewhere. After years of decline, glaciers in Norway are again growing, reports the Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate (NVE). The actual magnitude of the growth, which appears to have begun over the last two years, has not yet been quantified, says NVE Senior Engineer Hallgeir Elvehøy. [...]
